Solution

SCR DeNOx Catalyst Solutions

SCR removes NOx by reacting it with ammonia over a catalyst. Success depends on correct catalyst selection for the actual flue gas conditions.

Typical process

Boiler / furnace

Flue gas

Dust control / pretreatment

NH₃ injection

Mixing

SCR catalyst

SO₂ / dust control

Desulfurization

Clean gas

Typical applications

Thermal power and coal-fired systems, cement, alumina, steel, metallurgy and industrial furnaces.

Catalyst selection factors

  • Flue gas temperature
  • NOx concentration
  • NH₃/NOx ratio
  • SO₂ concentration
  • Dust loading
  • Arsenic
  • Mercury
  • Alkali metals
  • Water vapor
  • Target NOx concentration
  • Pressure drop allowance
  • Required service life

Engineering notes

SCR project economics are dominated by three inputs: catalyst volume, ammonia consumption and outage planning. Catalyst volume is set by the required conversion, the operating temperature window and the poisoning margin for the actual fuel; ammonia consumption follows the NH₃/NOx ratio needed to hold that conversion with acceptable slip.

Before sizing, we ask for the fuel analysis (sulfur, arsenic, alkali), the flue gas conditions at the reactor position and the measured velocity distribution. These determine geometry (plate vs honeycomb), pitch and volume margin more than any catalogue number.
